Landscaping on my own

Honey Buns , Saturday, 7th of August 2010 06:15:38 PM

l really, really hate my bare loan. It is a KB Florida house: big tall
Honey Buns
cement block and a tiny yard without anything to rest my eyes on. I'd love

from my husband, so putting in bricks and paving is out of the question. Is
there anything l can do to make my narrow bare back yard a little more
attractive? l absolutely lack designing taste and abilities and books on
landscaping are like math to me. Please, maybe some professional
landscaping advice on planting around borders and a little in the middle?
Fence is unfortunately also out of the question. Thank you so much.

Pumpkin has some great ideas. Another thing you could build is
hunni bunni
a small pond, nothing fancy..Here is what I did.

I got a small round black tub that holds about 20-30 gallons of water &

some small flagstone rocks to decorate the inside with, then added a few

water plants, oh, & get a cute little 'spitter' animal like a turtle or

fish or somthing you like & a small pump to pump the water thru the
spitter, you can add other things that you like, maybe a floating lilly
pad or whatnot. I spent a total of 75 dollars on mine. You could place
some paver stones or rocks around the side of the plastic tub to make it a
little more pretty. Add some larger stepping stones leading up to the
pond. Maybe put a few potted plants like geraniums around it too. The
garden people at Lowes or Home Depot can help you decide what all you
need, it is low maintenance & really peaceful to sit by while listening to
the water spash.
You definetely need some plants too, nothing is prettier than plants &
flowers around the yard.
You could also get an inexpensive bird bath, some are really pretty & the
birds love them.
How about a little patio table set with 2 chairs, that might look good
somewhere too.
Also you need some kind of tree or trees, I don't know exactly what grows
in ur area, but there are some fast growing ones, or maybe some shrubs
too.
An enexpensive boarder fence put up along the long side decorated with
more flowers & mulch would look nice.
I can not think of anything else at the moment, but I hope you find
something pleasing.

Good luck!

Loquat trees do pretty good in Fl. & will make a nice shade in
Baby kay
time. It will also produce small edible tangy fruit. For borders use a

variegated monkey grass. You can buy it at Walmart, lowes, home depot.

Most of the time it is reasonable & you can separate & divide the plants

to stretch them out. Plant them about 12'' apart & in a couple of years

they will close up the gaps. A bench & or fountain will add a little
personality, too. Humming bird feeders will add a little wild life. If
you plant wild flowers the butterflies will come.

1) get some cheap palm plants (low to the ground)
Boo Boo Kakes
2) get some of that red soil at Home Depot/Lowes. It spices up any yard -

even mine.

4) Landscaping bricks aren't that hard to carry if you buy little ones &

accomodate accordingly. Put some sand-concrete mixture underneath any
patio made of stones
5) A path of circle stones along the side of ur house. My mom was unable
to move them or dig, so we just dropped them in the place we wanted & let
them sink in. With rain & time, they will.
6) Maybe let the Home Depot/Lowes people install a fountain?
7)For shade, there is some cheap gazebos out there for around $1000 - I
think I saw one at SAMs club & it was great - wooden, too, with a real
roof. Or you can just get a cheapy one from Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes.
8) Plant some trees. Over time they create shade. I recommend ones that
grow well in ur area. Magnolia trees are beautiful. Pine also provides
nice shade when they grow in groups.
9) well, even though an in ground pool is out of the question, above
ground pools are relatively cheap & the decks that can be bought with them
are marvelous. Low lying plants & trees should help a lot. Maybe a bush or
two, with or without berries (depending on how much ur kid wanders).

A swingset is in ur future, you know that right?
Plan accordingly to that.^
