Yes. The bricks at the start-finish line actually rest over a

''shelf'' in the asphalt, so the bricks fill in the space.

An article on Jayski said NASCAR admitted that the track surface was not

the problem. Now the fact that the track is basically flat and the turns

are so long is the reason they wear tires out. The cars spend so much time

turning at high speeds on a flat track that I would guess it heats the
rubber up in the tires.

The bricks are still there but paved over. They still have 9

rows of bricks still lying on the front stretch.

In October 1961, the final remaining brick sections of the

track were paved over with asphalt, with the exception of a distinct

No, but they did leave a small row of them just past the start

finish line, thus they go and kiss the bricks after a win there. The

diamond cutting, and a number of car and tire issues are the problem there

it has nothing to do with any bricks.

edit: I stand corrected, they are there but paved over. The bricks

themselves are still not the issue as far as tire wear is concerned.
